Total length: 60 mm.
Upcut and downcut combined into one endmill. The lower part (8 mm) of the flute is an upcut spiral. The upper part (14 mm) is a downcut spiral. Total flute length is 22 mm.
This means that the top of the material will be pushed down and the bottom of the material will be pulled up. This reduces the chances of splintering on both top and bottom.
The same effect can be achieved by doing the same toolpath twice; first with a shallow pass with a downcut, then the rest of the cut with an upcut. This compression bit saves you a tool change and you only need to define one toolpath.
PLEASE NOTE:
– This endmill will also pack the chips/dust together in the vertical middle of the cut, which means it’s not very good at clearing out stuff and extra care needs to be taken to avoid heat buildup. Ie: you have to be more precise with your feeds and speeds.
– The aforementioned packing means it’s terrible for drilling. A hole straight down will leave the dust with nowhere to escape, which leads to burnt material and high tool wear.
